The Rise of Kofi Kingston in the WWE

WrestleMania 35 is only a couple of weeks away, and while the final few details are getting sorted for the largest WWE show of the wrestling calendar. There have been a handful of superstars that have managed to go above and beyond to ensure they make the biggest splash on 7 April 2019.

Kofi Kingston

Kofi Kingston is in the middle of the most significant moment of his wrestling career with a clear path to the WWE Championship match that will occur at WrestleMania. He has managed to make the most of every opportunity that he encountered over the past two months. From his jaw-dropping gauntlet match to his last-minute entry during the Elimination Chamber. All of his performance and character work he has managed to achieve opposite Vince McMahon. There’s no denying the natural upsurge behind this superstar that has been overlooked for a long time.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that Kofi Kingston has managed to charge from out of nowhere to finally become the newest number 1 within the WWE Power Rankings. The race for the top spot was incredibly close with Daniel Bryan, Becky Lynch, and Roman Reigns each receiving a first-place vote and barely missing out. However, Kingston will finally be getting his well-deserved shot, and he is killing it at the moment.

11 Years with the WWE

It’s quite difficult to imagine that Kingston has never managed to receive a one-on-one match for the championship in over 11 years with the organisation. He seemed like a real contender opposite Randy Orton for a top-tier opportunity during 2009. However, Kingston essentially assisted John Cena to become the next champion instead of fighting for the title himself. There’s also been a variety of multiway chances for the world title, including Elimination Chamber and Royal Rumble matches, but even those where snatched away at the last moment by Edge.

Fans of WWE can sometimes be accused of cheering for someone or something entirely different merely for the sake of cheering. Even though the initial excitement surrounding Kingston’s involvement in the Elimination Chamber could have sparked the necessary flame, it’s far more than that at the moment. There’s no denying that New Day managed to breathe new life into somewhat dormant tag team division. This happened on several occasions because of their endless creativity both out and inside the ring. Usually, this gets overlooked as tag teams are more than often shuffled to the side due to single’s rivalries and stories.

Given the opportunity to please the case of Kingston, Xavier Woods, Big E, and Kingston himself managed to cut the best promotion of their wrestling careers while they were in the ring with none other than Vince McMahon. The creativity and the heart of the collective efforts of New Day have energised the audience of WWE in a way only a handful of others have done in this era.
